January 22-28 is National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week. It’s the perfect time to talk with your teens about the facts and myths surrounding drug and alcohol use. In 2010, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) began an effort to help teens “learn what science has taught us about drug use and addiction.” [1]

What are some of the myths about drug and alcohol use?

Take a look at this great video from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). It may be a great way to start the conversation with your teen about the facts around drugs and alcohol. [2]

What are the statistics?

Another great video from NIDA shows results from the Monitoring the Future annual survey conducted by the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Each year, this survey polls kids from the following grades: 8, 10, and 12 about their “drug, alcohol, and cigarette use and related attitudes.” [3]
